2019 G d'Estournel

Chateau Cos d’Estournel has a unique and special relationship with India and its royalty dating back to the early 19th century, even before the Medoc classification took place in 1855 under Napoleon. It seems the princes and gentry who were sent to Oxford and Cambridge picked up the ‘Claret’ (as Bordeaux was referred to at the time) habit and the full, robust and complex wines of the St. Estephe appealed particularly to them.For the princely generation, it had to be the best and Louis Gaspard d’Estournel’s wine it was. Winery records have it that over 90% of the Chateaux wines were sent to India during the time. The Indian Elephant with a Houdah (elephant seat) is the wineries logo, amongst other odes to this connection with Indian history
