Jacquesson Cuvee no 742 N/V

Based on the 2014 vintage and disgorged with 1.5 grams per liter dosage in July 2018, Jacquesson’s NV Extra Brut Cuvée No. 742 continues the house’s pioneering series of cuvées that employ reserve wines not in pursuit of a constant “house style” but merely with the aim of complementing each base vintage to maximize its potential. Wafting from the glass with a complex bouquet of walnut oil, dried white flowers, saffron, citrus oil and crisp orchard fruit, along with a delicate top note of fino sherry, it’s medium to full-bodied, sapid and incisive, with superb concentration, racy acids and a long, resonant finish. I found it irresistible.

  • Based in the Dizy region of Champagne, the house makes claim to being the oldest independent Champagne house.

Currently run by brothers Jean-Hervé and Laurent Chiquet who have introduced methods of organic farming, increase of fermentation in oak, new vineyards being bought in.

Jacquesson vineyards are located in the Grand Cru villages of Ay, Avize and Oiry and in the Premier Cru villages of Dizy, Hautvillers and Mareuil-sur-Ay.

The Cuvée 700 is a blend of several years and is not allowed to be identified by one of the years involved; logically, it needed to be identified by a number and instead of inventing any old number, they decided to give the wine the production number that the Cuvée had in their cellar book. Cuvée no.1 had been made in 1898 by the House to celebrate its 100th   Thus it was, with Cuvée no. 728, based on the 2000 vintage, that their adventure began.
